Term Two, 2026

Assessment Task Two: Contributions Through Participation

Below is the key information about the assessment task.

Due dates • Contributions through participation are made weekly throughout the Term.

• The submission document is due by the end of your first tutorial.

Weightings • The assessment task is worth 15% of the final course mark.

Submission • The submission document needs to be lodged through the relevant Turnitin

portal on the course Moodle site.

Word limits • There is no word limit for the content in the submission document, as only a

brief amount of content needs to be provided.

• As the content consists of a short summary and a personal reflection, there is

no need to provide a reference list (unless desired).

Outcomes This assessment task is aligned with all three of the course learning outcomes (but

more specifically 1 & 3). In completing it, you should be able to show that you can:

1. Appraise concepts relating to promotional cultures, and

2. Apply promotional culture-related theories to enhance promotional

cultures.

Further information about the assessment task is provided over the following pages.

Summary

This assessment task involves providing weekly contributions through participation in class.

Details

In your tutorial, from week to week, provide contributions through your in-class participation. That

is, provide (verbal) contributions through both the small-group and plenary activities.

Towards the end of your first tutorial, complete the submission document, which provides a prompt

to help you reflect on the areas in which you did well in terms of your contributions through

participation and the areas in which you can improve your performance during the remainder of the

Term. At the end of the first tutorial, lodge the submission document through the relevant

assessment task two portal.

You’ll receive an initial mark after the first tutorial. Your tutor may then revise the mark (i.e.,

increase or decrease the mark) in week five to reflect the quality of your contributions through

participation up to week five. There will be no need to lodge another submission document. Your

tutor may then revise the mark again at the end of Term to give you your final assessment task two

mark, reflecting the quality of your contributions through participation during the Term.

Your tutor may call for devices (e.g., laptops and phones) to be put to one side during part(s) of the

tutorials. Your tutor may also ask follow-up questions and unseen questions during the activities in

the tutorials.

Minimum requirements

This assessment task has minimum requirements. Your contributions through participation need to:

• be relevant,

• be in English,

• be comprehensible (i.e., be able to be understood),

• follow staff instructions,

• be respectful of staff and other students,

• be provided without the use of live translation and/or recording apps, which are not to be in

operation during tutorials, and

• adhere to all other academic integrity principles.

The outcomes for not meeting these minimum requirements are detailed in the marking rubric.

Formatting

When preparing your submission document, remember to use 1.5-line spacing or double-spacing.

(You’ll likely find it helpful to make use of the template provided in the assessment task two section

of the course Moodle site.) Turnitin accepts most standard document types: Word (.doc and .docx),

plain text (.txt), PDF, etc. It is best to submit work early in order to check to ensure that Turnitin

hasn’t altered the formatting of your document (and, if it has, submit the assignment again in a

different format ahead of the due date).

Advance feedback

Although questions will happily be answered about the assessment task, advance feedback will not

be given about drafts, as this early feedback would be unfair to everyone.

Submission and completion

As with all assessment tasks, it is every student’s responsibility to ensure that work is successfully

submitted in its correct format/version. After the due date, teaching team members won’t upload

different versions of submitted documents. Not completing all assessment tasks will result in the

awarding of a UF (Unsatisfactory Fail) grade for the course. All marks for all assessment tasks are

provisional until the final course result is released. Assessment tasks cannot be re-taken or re-

attempted once the final feedback for each has been returned. (In other words, it is not possible to

have a second go at the assessment tasks.)
