Assessment Task Two: Marking Rubric

This document outlines the marking details – comprising the minimum requirements, as well as the marking rubric – for the assessment task.

Minimum requirements

Below are the minimum requirements for submitted work.

Minimum requirement Outcome of not meeting the minimum requirement

(A) Contributions through

participation need to be relevant.

(1) If some contributions through participation are irrelevant, a maximum mark of 50 (out of 100) will be awarded.

(2) If all contributions through participation are irrelevant, a maximum mark of 25 (out of 100) will be awarded.

(B) Contributions through

participation need to be in

English.

(3) If some contributions through participation are in a language other than English, a maximum mark of 50 (out of 100) will be

awarded.

(4) If all contributions through participation are in a language other than English, a mark of zero will be awarded.

(C) Contributions through

participation need to be

comprehensible.

(5) If some contributions through participation are incomprehensible, a maximum mark of 50 (out of 100) will be awarded.

(6) If all contributions through participation are incomprehensible, a maximum mark of 25 (out of 100) will be awarded.

(D) Contributions through

participation need to follow staff

instructions.

(7) If some contributions through participation do not follow staff instructions, a maximum mark of 50 (out of 100) will be awarded.

(8) If all contributions through participation do not follow staff instructions, a maximum mark of 25 (out of 100) will be awarded.

(E) Contributions through

participation need to be

respectful of staff and other

students.

(9) If any contributions through participation are not respectful of staff and/or other students, a maximum mark of 25 (out of 100)

will be awarded. Multiple and/or severe instances of disrespect towards staff and/or other students will result in a mark of zero.

Additionally, action may be taken through the university’s complaints management and investigation policy and procedure.

(F) Contributions through

participation need to be provided

without the use of live translation

and/or recording apps.

(10) If any contributions through participation are provided using live translation and/or recording apps, a maximum mark of 25 (out

of 100) will be awarded. Additionally, action may be taken through the university’s complaints management and investigation policy

and procedure.

(G) Contributions through

participation need to adhere to all

other academic integrity

principles.

(11) If contributions through participation do not adhere to academic integrity principles, the outcome will follow the university’s

complaints management and investigation policy and procedure and/or the plagiarism policy and plagiarism management

procedure.

Below is the marking rubric for the assessment task.

Performance is

unsatisfactory.

Fail-level contributions through participation are unsatisfactory on the whole. They fail because they

do not meet the standards at the Pass level or the minimum requirements, and/or disregard other

assessment task instructions.

50 – 64 Pass Acceptable

Performance is

acceptable.

Pass-level contributions through participation are acceptable on the whole. They address the

assessment task requirements, but are not yet good (at the Credit level). Typically, Pass-level

contributions through participation provide acceptable engagement, generally adequate comments,

in plenary (i.e., whole-class) and small-group activities.

65 – 74 Credit Good

Performance is

good.

Credit-level contributions through participation are good on the whole. They address the assessment

task requirements well. Typically, Credit-level contributions through participation provide good

engagement, generally strong comments that show creative and/or critical consideration of the

subject matter, in plenary (i.e., whole-class) and small-group activities. These contributions may still

have weaknesses on multiple levels.

75 – 84 Distinction Superior

Performance is

superior.

Distinction-level contributions through participation are superior on the whole. They address the

assessment task requirements excellently. Typically, Distinction-level contributions through

participation provide very strong engagement, generally excellent comments that show very creative

and/or critical consideration of the subject matter, in plenary (i.e., whole-class) and small-group

activities. These contributions may still have weaknesses on multiple levels.

85 – 100

High

Distinction

Outstanding

Performance is

outstanding.

High Distinction-level contributions through participation are outstanding on the whole. They

address the assessment task requirements extremely well. Typically, High Distinction-level

contributions through participation provide superb engagement, generally outstanding comments

that show sophisticated creative and/or critical consideration of the subject matter, offering

innovative or fresh engagement with theory, in plenary (i.e., whole-class) and small-group activities.

These contributions may still have weaknesses on multiple levels.
