Task Description: Write a 2500 word report USING ONE OF THE FOLLOWING TITLES.

 

1. Explain how the Grossman model departs from the standard microeconomic approach and how it may be used for theoretical predictions for health care demand.

OR

2. Discuss market failure in the health care context and provide solutions to get closer to equilibrium.

OR

3. Discuss inequity in the context of health care and discuss how it relates to inequality in the distribution of health care.

How to approach your report:

· Introduction: Include title (given above), page numbers, what is the research question. First paragraph must state the aim of the report in the first line.

· Theoretical framework: Provide 3 concepts and discuss. For example, in the Grossman topic, one might refer to the consumption and production of health, the efficiency of production in health and

· Main literature: Readings that are associated with this report are provided in the reading lists in each lecture, and are also referenced in some of the key papers). Discuss at least 2 key papers that are relevant to the topic, their aims and methodologies.

· Discussion: Include main results from the 2 key papers and discuss.

· Critique: How does the evidence build on previous literature, e.g. the paper adds by providing new data, methods, analyses, ideas etc. What are the strengths of the paper (usually provided)? What are the limitations of the paper, usually these are provided too, and sometimes called weaknesses. Use evidence for critique, e.g. the literature does not use enough data to provide a conclusive result – this will be stated in the paper itself, or a paper that follows, at a later date, will reflect back and state this – reference the evidence. Opinions are allowed but need to be backed up by high quality evidence from literature. At least one strength and one limitation is to be provided and discussed.

Keep critique to a relevant word count, e.g. 750 words.

· Presentation: Provide an excellent layout/presentation, including diagrams (with sources) and references, where appropriate.

Keep the report to approx. 2500 words, ensure key concepts are included.
