Overview

Behaviour analysts are often responsible for teaching

others how to implement behaviour

interventions/teaching strategies, and for directly

supervising aspiring or newly certified behaviour

analysts. In this unit, you will learn about applications of

behaviour analysis to deliver job training, supervision,

and performance management. Topics covered include

effective communication, assessing performance,

establishing performance expectations and goals,

teaching new job skills, monitoring performance,

delivering effective performance feedback, using

reinforcement in the workplace, and identifying and

remediating performance problems using a

performance analysis. In addition, you will learn about

effective strategies for interdisciplinary collaboration

and cultural competence when working with other

professionals, such as teachers, school leaders, and

allied health practitioners. This unit primarily aligns to

section 2I of the BACBs 5-th Edition task list.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, you should be

able to:

1. describe the components and importance of

successful performance management and

supervision (and the risks of ineffective

performance management) in the

professional practice of

applied behaviour analysis

2. assess on-the-job performance to create

performance goals and expectations

3. use evidence-based staff training and

performance management systems to teach

personnel to

competently perform assessment and

intervention procedures

4. identify common performance problems, and

implement function-based strategies to

remediate

performance problems

5. describe strategies for behaviour analysts to

effectively collaborate within interdisciplinary

teams

Teaching approach

Active learning

You will be provided with the opportunity to engage with

relevant literature and resources. Further, you will be

encouraged to deepen your understanding of topic

areas through, collegial discussion and debate, and by

participating in activities designed to extend your

understanding.

Workload

The minimum total expected workload to achieve the

learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per

teaching period comprising a mixture of scheduled

learning activities and independent study.

Usually, you can expect to engage with:

• 12 hours of scheduled learning delivered on campus

via weekly/regular directed learning activities, plus 33

hours of scheduled learning delivered online via a

combination of synchronous and asynchronous directed

learning activities and the remaining hours to be

allocated towards self-directed/independent study

OR

• 45 hours of scheduled learning delivered online via a

combination of synchronous and asynchronous directed

learning activities and the remaining hours to be

allocated towards self-directed/independent study^

^ International students studying in Australia are not

permitted to undertake this scheduled learning delivery

mode.

Scheduled learning activities may include a

combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed

learning and online engagement.
