Data Wrangling and Visualisation
Muesli Pty Ltd Part 3 (Liquidity & Growth Analysis)
BUSA90520 2025 S1 1 Group Project 3
Overview
This assignment is worth 18% of the overall subject grade.
This assignment is due on Monday, May 19, 2025 at 11:59 AM.
The assignment must be submitted via the University of Melbourne LMS.
One person must upload one single ZIP or RAR file on behalf of the group, containing:
• One PDF file. This is the final version of your 2-page report, that must be created directly from Tableau.
• One Tableau workbook (*.twb). A single file must contain all reports, data sources and visualisations.
• All files referenced by your data sources. This includes files that were given to you.
It is to be completed in groups of 3-4 students. You will be assessed as a group. All group members are
expected to contribute equally to your group’s effort. Each group is responsible for managing the
distribution of the workload for completing the project.
Learning Outcomes
This assignment will allow you to develop your ability to analyse data and present information to support
operational and strategic decision making using a variety of technologies such as databases, programming
languages and visualisation software.
More specifically:
• Communicate, using a mix of visualizations, a coherent, well-sequenced summary of a data analysis to
inform an audience of the key findings of that analysis.
• Interpret and write a summary of the noteworthy patterns, trends and exceptions identified in a set of
data.
• Create a variety of charts to visually display data, selecting chart types relevant to the intent of inquiry.
• Use data visualizations to compare and contrast aggregate measures between subsets of data, or over
time, to identify patterns, trends and exceptions present in data.
Preparation
Refer to the briefing document for important background information about Muesli Pty Ltd.

Data Wrangling and Visualisation
Muesli Pty Ltd Part 3 (Liquidity & Growth Analysis)
BUSA90520 2025 S1 2 Group Project 3
Objective
The CEO of Muesli Pty Ltd has asked your team to assess the company’s short-term viability and growth
prospects.
As a newly established business, Muesli Pty Ltd borrowed a substantial amount through a line of credit to
fund its start-up. The CEO is particularly interested in understanding the company’s financial liquidity and
whether it is generating enough positive cash flow from operations to meet debt obligations and support
future growth.
Weekly Report
You are to prepare a 2-page report analysing the company’s operating cash flows and the key factors
influencing them. Focus your analysis on the 13 weeks of operations leading up to and including the week
ending May 2nd. Your insights will help inform the development of a future cash balance prediction model
(simulation).
At minimum, your report should address:
• Cash, Accounts Receivable, and Accounts Payable – Include current balances and any historical trends
or patterns.
• Net Weekly Operating Cash Flows – Focus on cash generated from operations (exclude loan
repayments or consulting fees).
• Weekly Cash Outflows – Identify where the company is spending cash.
• Weekly Revenues by Channel – Assess revenue trends across the three customer channels; strong sales
support healthy cash inflows.
• Customer Payment Behaviour – Analyse time-to-pay patterns for each channel. All customers are
currently on Net 30 terms. While prompt payments are desirable, it’s more important to understand the
actual cash collection timelines to support accurate forecasting.
The CEO is also interested in product-level revenue and contribution margins. The company currently
produces 6 of the 12 possible products, having made this decision with minimal market research. Use the
provided data files and database information to evaluate product performance and identify opportunities to
improve revenue and profit.
Analysis and Recommendation
Based on your analysis, provide an opinion on the company’s current liquidity and growth potential. Is the
business generating positive operating cash flow? What opportunities exist to grow sales and profitability,
particularly if the product mix is revised?
Keep in mind the company has limited production capacity, and customers typically purchase multiple
products at once. It cannot manufacture all 12 products, nor should it overly specialise. The optimal product
range should include 4 to 7 products, depending on estimated sales volumes.
Your tone should be informal and advisory, but your recommendations must be well-reasoned and
supported by evidence. Avoid speculation—base your conclusions on clear interpretation of the data.

Technical Considerations
Once your initial report is complete, the CEO will expect regular updates every few weeks. To make this
sustainable, your reporting process should be as automated as possible, allowing you to refresh the analysis
quickly with new data.
Each week, after updating the dataset and reviewing the updated charts in your report, you will revise your
analysis, estimates, and recommendations in light of the new situation. After the first report is built, each
update should take no more than 30 minutes. The report should clearly highlight any operational changes or
emerging opportunities.
To support this:
• All constraints (e.g., report date, analysis period) must be parameterised and dynamically updated.
• All calculations must update automatically based on these parameters.
• You are required to test that these functions work correctly using various past Friday dates (e.g., April 4,
11, or 18).
• You must use Tableau, connected directly to the source database, to produce your report.
• You may not use other tools (e.g., Excel) to edit or calculate data, create intermediary files, or copy/paste
data into Tableau.
• You may not use other tools to create visualisations or to design/layout the PDF report (e.g., Excel, Word,
PowerPoint).
• SQL queries must be embedded in Tableau as Custom SQL within a Tableau Data Source. You may write
and test queries in Data Studio but must paste the SQL directly into Tableau—not the output data.
You may calculate rough estimates or predictions outside Tableau, as long as they are included in the report
as static values (e.g., single numbers within text).

Marking Guide
Simplicity of End-to-End Solution
There is a high degree of automation, with minimal manual processing or intervention required
(see technical considerations).
• The implementation is simple and tidy. The number of files is minimal.
• The number of data sources is reasonable, and do not contain overly redundant elements.
Each one should have a clear scope or purpose as identified by its name.
• Dimensions, measures, and parameters are organised and well named.
• Worksheet tabs are well organised and well named.

Summary Report – Layout, Charts and Tables
Design choices enable understanding of performance and influencing factors.
• The content is relevant to the purpose of the report, as outlined in the brief.
• Accurate, free of computational, aggregational or data importation / filtering errors.
• The sequence and flow of the report is logical and easy to digest, progressing in an orderly
way that invites interest rather than mechanical progression.
• Report has a main title indicating purpose, and time period.
• Placement of text and charts on individual pages assists the reader to assimilate the
findings. A single readthrough should be all that is required to understand most of the key
messages.
• Charts effectively highlight findings or conclusions, presenting them in an easily
understandable manner. They are designed to serve a specific purpose or convey a singular
message.
• Proportions are accurate and well chosen; axis intervals are equidistant.
• 6 to 12-word descriptive titles are well chosen to convey key takeaways. Subtitles provide
additional, useful, information where necessary to clarify the content of charts.
• Font choices are similar, and text is hierarchical, horizontal and readable (size and contrast).
• Data are labelled directly instead of with colour legends, and intentionally ordered.
• Look and feel is consistent. The colour scheme is intentional and chosen to convey
semantic meaning, highlight key patterns or emphasize key elements to focus attention on
specific areas. Colour choices do not significantly impact the ability to understand content
when printed in black and white, or by people with colour blindness.
• Free from unneeded decoration (including decorative colours); redundant or excessive data
point labels; over-precision; distracting grid lines, tick marks or axis lines.

Analysis & Recommendation
• The analysis and recommendations are clear, well-reasoned and easy to associate with the
accompanying charts and tables.
• The analysis and recommendations are specific to the data, and not general business
common sense or beyond the scope of the report.
• The report text (including titles) is a fair summation or conclusion of the accompanying
charts and tables - there are no misinterpretations.
• The text is professionally written in English, and mostly free from spelling mistakes and
grammatical errors. Sentences are well-constructed and of reasonable length.
