Transferable Skills
Experience and expertise grow everyday, from smaller jobs, events and occurrences. What you
can take away from these day-to-day happenings are transferable skillsets. As a example I have
worked as a Chef, Hostess and Head Waitress and developed adaptability, team-working and
confidence in communication, essentials skills looked for during a hiring process. Aside from
experience and knowledge these skills are important as they form part of you as a person, along
with you motivations and personality traits.
Other transferable skills

Networking
As an example, London Alley has focus on music videos and commercials; creating
engaging content to lure young audiences in, producing for global names such as Kendrick
Lamar and Rihanna to brands including Adidas and Puma. On their section for hiring a
producer they state they look for experience in any production; preferably both music
videos and commercial. They also points out the importance of collaborating and
understanding the Director’s concept to push it to its fullest potential.

Freelancing & In-House
Music video production also offers opportunities for freelance work and entrepreneurship,
as many music artists and independent producers are looking for unique and affordable
ways in the crowded industry.
It affords a great deal of control and autonomy. Freelancers can pick and choose their
clients and projects, and have a great deal of flexibility in terms of scheduling, location and
pay. Freelance video producers are usually in high demand, and the prospect of working on
diverse and exciting projects often makes freelancing a very attractive option.
On the other hand, in-house production often provides greater security and stability, along
with the opportunity to become fully immersed in a company's culture. Those who work in-
house typically work on a long-term basis with a set schedule and salary, creating job
security. In-house producer might work on a project like "Harmonizing for a Cause" produced
by Warner Music Group, which involves coordinating artists, creative teams, and other
internal resources to create the music video.
In contrast, produced by freelancer, "Humble" by Kendrick Lamar, was directed by Dave
Meyers and The Little Homies, and produced by Jason Baum. Baum explains in an interview
with Marcus J. Moore, "It's never just one thing. It's a mix of having a strong concept, the
right director, and a willingness to be creative and take risks" (Moore, 2021). Working on all
sized productions and many names. “I’ve worked with a range of different people that are
coming into directing and producing. A lot of it is really kind of being a chameleon for the
situation, and really adapting to what the needs might be.” —Jason Baum (Academy, 2023)
According to “Global Music Video Production Market”, major content production companies
include Lighthouse Films, London Alley, Go Big LA, Litewave Media, Video Ink, TribeSound,
Maximum Flavor Media, ARTtouchesART, Partizan, Escape Plan Productions, Universal Music
Group, Sony Music, Warner Music Group.’ (Verified Market Research, 2021). Most of these
specialise in short content; music videos, commercials and branded content. In other words
within a company you also have a variety of content to create.
