Dear LIWEN WANG
SID: 530001287
I refer to my recent correspondence regarding an alleged breach of the Academic Integrity
Policy 2022 in relation to work you submitted for Practical Report, in GEGE2001 Genetics and
Genomics, S2C, 2024.
Having considered the available evidence, including any response provided by you, I have
determined that you have engaged in a major breach as defined in Part 6 of the Academic
Integrity Policy 2022.
I have arrived at this decision because almost all of the assignment you submitted as your
own work was plagiarised from online sources. Going forward, I recommend you learn how to
take notes in your own words, and then you will be able to integrate and use those notes when
writing. The Learning Hub offers short courses on note taking that will help you develop this
essential skill.
A mark of 0% will be recorded for you for this assessment task.
You are also required to undertake an additional development course. Instructions are
provided on the following page to complete.
Please note that I have informed your Unit of Study Coordinator and/or the original examiner
of the outcome of this case.
This outcome will be recorded on your internal confidential student file and may be taken into
consideration in the event of any future breaches of the Academic Integrity Policy 2022 or the
University of Sydney (Student Discipline) Rule 2016. This finding will not appear on your
academic transcript.
The above notwithstanding, I remind you here of the importance the University places on
academic honesty, and encourage you to seek out additional development opportunities
beyond those indicated above in this regard.
For more information about and resources on academic honesty, please visit the
academic integrity pages of the University’s Current Students website. Additional resources
and support are available to help you develop your writing skills further.
Appealing this decision
If you genuinely believe that due academic process has not been followed in making this
decision, you may submit an application for review to the Faculty in accordance with section
3.1 of the University of Sydney (Student Academic Appeals) Rule 2021.
2
Please refer to the Applications for Review page of the Current Students website for more
information. Note that informal resolution with the original decision-maker is not required when
appealing an academic integrity decision, and you may proceed directly to submit an
application for review to the Faculty.
Support available to you
If you require assistance in preparing an appeal, you are encouraged to seek advice from a
caseworker at the Students' Representative Council (SRC) or Sydney University Postgraduate
Representative Association (SUPRA), depending on which is appropriate to your
circumstances. These services are free, confidential and independent of the University.
The University offers a range of wellbeing and support services. If you are feeling anxious or
distressed, you may wish to seek personal support from the University’s Student Counselling
Service. This is a confidential and free service.
Sincerely,
Dr Caleb Owens
Educational Integrity Coordinator
