2. 2 user stories
1. As Emliy Davis, I want an automated scheduling feature for food donations so that I
can efficiently manage surplus food from my restaurant without spending too much
time on logistics.
Priority: Must Have
Justification:
The responses to these two questions revealed that many respondents donate
infrequently, with a significant number indicating time constraints as a key barrier. For
individuals like Emily Davis, who manage a busy schedule, the ability to automate the
donation process would alleviate this burden and encourage more consistent
participation in food donation. Therefore, the automated scheduling feature is
essential for users who, like Emily, need a time-efficient solution to manage regular
surplus food donations.
2. As Mark Thompson I want step-by-step guidance on how to donate food so that I can
feel confident that my donations are appropriate and helpful.
Priority: Should Have
Justification: The questionnaire results of this question indicate that many users are
hesitant to donate because they are unsure about the suitability of their contributions.
Mark Thompson, who represents users new to food donation, needs clear guidance
to participate confidently. While this feature is critical for encouraging new and
uncertain users to donate, it is not as time-sensitive as the scheduling feature for
users with regular surplus. Therefore, it is categorised as "Should Have" because it
plays a crucial role in expanding the user base and reducing barriers to donation, but
it is not as immediately necessary as the scheduling feature for users like Emily.
3. 2 additional requirements
Requirement 1: Automated Donation Scheduling and Notifications
Requirement 2: Interactive Donation Guidance and Food Suitability Verification
4. Analysis/Reflection
The questionnaire data analysis informed the development of additional requirements and
user stories, revealing key challenges faced by potential users. For Emily Davis, a busy
restaurant owner persona, time constraints were the primary obstacle to consistent food
donations. This insight emerged from responses to "How often did you donated food in the
past 12 months?", which showed many respondents, especially those with demanding
schedules, struggled to donate regularly. The data indicated that an efficient, automated
system could significantly mitigate this challenge, leading to the Automated Donation
Scheduling and Notifications feature being prioritised as a Must Have. This feature is
important for users like Emily, who need a streamlined process that integrates easily with
their daily operations, which enables regular surplus food donations without additional
logistical complications. By solving the core problem of time management, the application
can encourage more consistent participation from time-constrained users. The "Must Have"
classification reflects its importance in helping users like Emily efficiently achieve their goals.
Mark Thompson's persona, representing newcomers to food donation, highlighted
uncertainty about donation suitability as a major concern. This was evident in responses to
"Have you ever given up donating in the past due to uncertainty about whether food is
suitable for donation?", where many indicated this uncertainty often prevented them from
donating. To solve this problem, the Interactive Donation Guidance and Food Suitability
Verification feature was developed and categorised as a Should Have. I think this feature
aims to instil confidence in users like Mark by providing clear, step-by-step instructions and
verification tools, such as photo upload options to confirm donation standards. Although not
as critical as the automated scheduling tool, this feature is crucial for reducing psychological
barriers and encouraging a wider range of users to participate in food donation. Its "Should
Have" priority ensures the app caters to both experienced and novice donors, broadening its
user base and enhancing its overall impact. By addressing these distinct user needs, the
application is better equipped to facilitate a more inclusive and extensive range of food
donation activities.

2. 2 user stories
User story 1:As Kyle Bennett, I hope the app can provide data disclosure functions so that I
can understand where the food donations go, ensure that they help those in need, and
support my research.
Priority:must have
Data disclosure functions are necessary to ensure that the donated food is clearly sent to the
donors. Our survey shows that one of the most pressing issues for donors is whether their
donations actually help the recipients, thereby gaining the trust of donors and maintaining
the operation of the platform. However, the data analysis provided by the app may not be
detailed enough to support Kyle's research for various reasons.
User story 2: As Ethan Brooks, I hope that the food donation app can provide some
feedback to let me know how my donation helps the recipients, which will encourage me to
continuously participate.
Priority: Should have
The app must have a basic feedback function to allow the donator to know the experience
of their donation recipients, as it directly affects the user's continued participation and
enthusiasm for donation which is most concerned by Ethan and most of our donors.
3. 2 additional requirements
Additional requirements 1: Enable recipients to leave comments under donation
organisations/locations, allowing them to share their experiences, feedback, and
feelings—whether positive, negative, or neutral.
Additional requirements 2: Provide a simple statistics page for each donation
organisation/location, including the amount of food received, the number of people helped,
number of donation activities held etc.
4. Analysis/Reflection
Although we did not pre-distribute the questionnaire due to time and budget reasons, which
may reduce the pertinence of our questionnaire, we believe that the overall survey results of
our questionnaire are quite satisfactory.
In terms of demographic characteristics, first of all, our survey group is mainly concentrated
in the age of 24-34, which is mainly the result of distributing the questionnaire through the
Internet, which is in line with the trend that Internet users are relatively young. Similarly, due
to the limitation of the media (it is also an Internet app), the main user group of our app may
also be relatively young. Due to the youth of the population, it includes many student groups,
and there are relatively more people with low incomes.
From the perspective of donation habits, most people do not have the habit of donating
frequently, so our app is designed for both people who have the habit of donating and those
who do not. For people who have the habit of donating, our app is a tool that can help them
complete donations more conveniently, just like Kyle uses my app to save the time he
spends on food donation activities, so that she has more time to focus on her study and
research. For people who do not have the habit of donating, our app provides publicity for
food donations and very detailed guidance to help them take the first step, participate in the
cause of food donation, and make more contributions to society.
For donation, donators value the convenience of donation more. Many respondents may
have the motivation to donate and know the food donation sites, but have not actually
donated food. From the results of the challenge part, it can be inferred that they do not trust
the donation organisations and do not believe that donation can really help people in need.
Another possibility is that donation has a high time and energy cost. From this point of view, I
think the main purpose of our app is to reduce the time and energy cost of obtaining
information in food donation, so that donors can have a convenient donation experience,
thereby increasing the participation in food donation activities. Secondly, our app is also a
good information disclosure platform.
Through the convenience of the app, we can introduce some donation organisations,
disclose their donation results and feedback from recipients, so as to gain the trust of more
donors and expand the influence of our food donation charity. Ethan is our typical user in this
regard. He is introverted and not good at communicating with people, but he has the idea of
donating food. By watching our information disclosure and food donation feedback, and
considering time and place, he chose a trustworthy food donation site near him, and through
the food guideline, he determined the food he wanted to donate, and finally completed the
donation activity conveniently.
Overall, our survey results provided valuable insights for the design of the app. Despite
some limitations, we successfully identified the needs and challenges of users. By
simplifying the information acquisition and donation process for users, we are confident that
we can attract more users to participate in food donation and promote the development of
food donation charity.
