SIEN6006 Entrepreneurship

Biography of an Entrepreneur

THE TASK:

Your task is to analyse the life journey of one entrepreneur of your choice, using

relevant sources of information (e.g., autobiographical, biographical, and other

relevant secondary data) and unit of study content form Weeks 1-6.

The purpose of this assignment is to provide insights into the entrepreneur’s journey

by applying relevant concepts and materials from Weeks 1-6 to relevant data you

have gathered on the entrepreneur and their activities. In doing so, you will move

beyond simply describing the entrepreneur’s journey to analysing and reflecting on

this journey.

You have discretion in deciding on the content you speak to in your assignment.

However, you should have the following basic structure:

• Executive Summary: A standalone section that synopsises your report.

• Introduction: Assume the reader has never heard of the subject of your

biography. Give a brief introduction that tells the reader who the

entrepreneur is, their field of interest, motivations, key achievements, etc.

• Body of the paper: Topics explored here will vary, depending on the

entrepreneur you choose to focus upon and the dynamics of their venture

formation and development. Be strategic in choosing appropriate topics:

some will be more relevant for your entrepreneur’s journey compared with

others. Remember the purpose of this assignment when selecting your topics:

showing your understanding of relevant unit of study concepts by applying

them to analyse and reflect on your chosen entrepreneur’s journey.

Sample topics could include:

- Opportunities: discovered or created?

- Evolution of the business idea

- The process of entrepreneurship

- The role of innovation: type, scope, etc.

- Interruptions and significant events in the process of business formation

- Characteristics of the entrepreneur

- Critical stages and transitions

- Challenges in scaling up

- Entrepreneurial ecosystems

• Conclusions and reflections: Main findings summarised, extrapolated and

reflected upon using appropriate unit of study material.

• References.

The report should be written in discrete sections. These sections should be linked

together so the report is an integrated and compelling analytical argument that

leads to your conclusions.

IMPORTANT INFO:

Length:

2,000 words (exclusive of references)

Due Date: Online via Canvas by 11:59 on 9th September.

Weight: 30%

All assessments are compulsory. Late assessments attract penalties – 5% for

everyday or part thereof up to and including ten days after the due date. For work

submitted more than 10 days after the due date a mark of zero will be awarded.

Style Guide:

Provide an executive summary of 100-150 words that outlines the key issues of your

analysis and summarises your conclusions. This should be self-contained and the

reader should be able to understand the essence of the analysis and your

recommendations without reading the body of the report.

This will be included in

your word count.

Avoid simple description of facts and events. Rather, demonstrate your

understanding by applying the relevant unit of study materials to analyse and

reflect upon the case.

Do not rely on a single source of information. Make sure there is enough verifiable

information available about your chosen entrepreneur.

You must provide appropriate referencing of any data sources or quotes, using APA

style 7.

While charts, graphs and other images are important, highly detailed information,

multiple charts, graphs and other supporting data of less importance are best

placed in an Appendix.

This material should only be included if it is referred to in

the main body of the assignment (i.e., because it is relevant).

An Appendix, if used,

does not count as part of the word limit.

Write in full sentences.

Dot points are only for listing issues.

You must still explain

the issues.

Do not exceed the word limit.

The top end of the word limit is the UPPER

BOUND.

Anything beyond that will not be read.

Present your ideas convincingly,

creatively and concisely.
