ECS323_Assessment 2_20240603 Page 1 of 11
Context
For this assignment, you are required to work in groups of three to four students. This project
proposal should be approximately 1500 words (+/- 10%), excluding the cover page, table of
contents, reference list and appendix. This proposal must be typed and clearly set out (presented
professionally).
You need to pay special attention to principles and key concepts of data management in enterprise
computing, enterprise computing network and security, enterprise cloud computing and emerging
trends in enterprise computing. The purpose of this assessment is to give you an opportunity to
contextualise and convey to the Learning Facilitator relevant knowledge based on “real-world”
application. Particularly, the aim of this assessment is to enhance your employability skills by
providing hands-on education and opportunities to practice real-life experience. As a result, this
assessment item is developed not only to evaluate your understanding of enterprise computing
systems application, but also to assist you in practicing and improving your research skills. In doing
so, this assessment will formatively develop the knowledge required for you to complete
Assessment 3 successfully.
Instructions
You are expected to address the following steps to fulfil this assessment task:
1. Group Formation
For this assessment (and Assessment 3), you are required to work in groups of three to four
students. Refer to the following instructions for group formation in this subject:
• Form a group with a maximum of 4 members.
• Your group must be formed by the end of Module 4 (Week 4).
• Your group must be registered by sending your Learning Facilitator an email with
“ECS323 Group Registration” in the subject line. In the body of the email, please list the
names and student ID numbers of all the members of your group. CC other students in
your email.
• The deadline for the group registration is 11:45pm AEST on Friday at the end of Module
4 (Week 4).
• You are required to send the registration email to your Learning Facilitator before the
registration deadline. After the registration deadline, the students who are not in a
group will be allocated to a group by the Learning Facilitator.
• Please note that you will also work with your group members for Assessment Tasks 2
and 3.
2. Group Contract
After finalising your group for this assessment, each group should complete and submit a
group contract to their Learning Facilitator by end of Module 6. If your group fails to submit
the group contract, then your project proposal will not be assessed. Refer to the
ECS323_Assessment 2_Group Contract document for the instructions, guide, and
recommendations on how to develop a group contract for this assessment.
ECS323_Assessment 2_20240603 Page 2 of 11
• This document outlines the rules and conditions each group must follow for Assessment
Tasks 2 and 3, as well as the roles and responsibilities of each group member. Each
group is required to complete their group contract and attach it as an appendix to the
report.
• It is expected that the workload is shared equitably among all group members.
• When submitting the group contract, you are reminded not to ‘recycle’ (self-plagiarise)
contracts from other assessment tasks. Sections on deliverables, timelines and
expectations should be unique to each assessment task or project. Self-plagiarism
constitutes a breach of Academic Integrity and can lead to the application of penalties to
the assessment task or subject.
• During Assessment Tasks 2 and 3, you should keep records of all communications and
drafts. Any serious concerns about an individual group member’s contribution should be
brought to the attention of your Learning Facilitator as soon as they occur or at least two
weeks before the due date, whichever is earlier.
• If a student has been accused of not contributing equally or fairly to a group assessment
task, the student will be contacted by the Learning Facilitator and given three working
days to respond to the allegation and provide supporting evidence. If there is no
response within three working days of contact, the Learning Facilitator will determine an
appropriate mark based on the evidence available. This mark may differ from the mark
awarded to other group members and will reflect the individual student’s contribution in
terms of the quantity and quality of work.
3. Organisation Selection
In identifying an appropriate organization, you may choose it from the topics introduced in
Assessment 1.
Note: you should include the topic number for the organisation chosen for this assessment
in your group contract.
4. Vendors Selection
Based on the organisation you selected from the topics given in Assessment 1, choose
vendors that offer applications, performance, and functionality to address the organisation’s
enterprise computing problems.
Note: you should include the name of vendors chosen for this assessment in your group
contract.
5. Technology Solution Module Selection/Development
Technology module selection: investigate and identify suitable technology solution modules
for each vendor to meet your client requirements. Note it may require modules from diverse
vendors. The technical design needs to take into consideration the options of partial in-
house development in case the vendor does not provide an appropriate solution. The
technical design must also address the integration of these solution modules to meet quality
performance assurance matrix required by the selected industry domain.
Note: you should include the technical design schematic on how the vendor solutions
modules will be orchestrated to meet the client requirements.
ECS323_Assessment 2_20240603 Page 3 of 11
6. Agile Solution Proposal
Develop a technical design proposal to introduce and compare the selected vendors, explain
why you have chosen them by highlighting their products and their features, functionality,
cost, and performance, and how they address the specific needs and challenges of
enterprise computing systems in your selected organisation. Create and share the plan on
how you will accommodate the client requirements through a selected agile approach in the
new era of digital revolution.
The proposal should consist of the following structure:
A title page with subject code and name, assignment title, group number, students’ names,
students’ numbers, topic number of the organisation selected for this assessment, and lecturer’s
name.
Executive Summary (highlight the selected organisation (topic), vendors and key findings)
Table of contents
The introduction (200–250 words) will also serve as your statement of purpose for the report—this
means that you will tell the reader what you are going to cover in your report.
You will need to inform the reader of:
a. Your area of research and its context (selected organisation and vendors).
b. The key concepts you will be addressing in this proposal.
c. What the reader can expect to find in the body of the report.
The body of the report (1000–1100 words)
• An overview of the selected organisation (topic).
• An overview of the selected vendors and their products.
• Presenting a list of enterprise computing problems and issues to be addressed in this
proposal – (Hint: In case of no direct access to the organisation from where you can collect
enterprise computing problems, you may report it as a research problem in your assessment
with the white papers published very recently by the relevant organization(s) on enterprise
computing systems in identifying the problems/challenges faced by them and mitigation
approaches).
• Technical design schematic on how these solution modules will be integrated and tuned to
meet the client’s requirements (with potential in-house development contributions) –
students are to use the “selected” Unified Modeling Languages (UMLs) to depict their
planning for clear, collaborative and agile communication with peer developers and clients.

(source: https://www.visual-paradigm.com/guide/uml-unified-modeling-language/what-is-uml/)
• Comparative analysis of two selected vendors to address the selected organisation’s
enterprise computing problems and issues.
• Plan on how the enterprise system requirements will be accommodated through an agile
solution approach in the new era of digital evolution.
• Consideration of alignment to TOGAF and/or Zachman framework in enterprise
architecture design.
• Consideration of ethics and societal impacts of your technical recommendations.
The conclusion (200–250 words)
Reference list (you need to include at least 6 academic resources to develop this project proposal).
Format of the report
The report should use font Arial or Calibri 11 point, be line spaced at 1.5 for ease of reading, and
have page numbers on the bottom of each page. If diagrams or tables are used, due attention should
be given to pagination to avoid loss of meaning and continuity by unnecessarily splitting information
over two pages. Diagrams must carry the appropriate captioning.
You are strongly advised to read the rubric, which is an evaluation guide with criteria for grading the
assignment—this will give you a clear picture of what a successful report looks like.
