MGMT 314 Assignment 3: IDENTITY PORTFOLIO

Individual assignment 40% (40 marks)

Due: Tuesday 28th May, 2pm via Canvas

Word limit: 2000 (+ or -10%)

You will present an exciting, reflective portfolio linking your identity (see week 8) to your potential future work (or your present work if you prefer). This portfolio presents YOU in the world of work and your own ‘voice’ and experiences must permeate this assignment. You need to draw upon at least two other course topics as well as identity to construct your portfolio. You may build upon the analysis used in assignments one and/or two, but this must be extended and developed for this specific assignment- there can be no repetition. Alternatively, you can use two topics not covered in assignments one and/or two.

You should use personal examples (e.g. past experiences) and you MUST use critical course theory to extend and develop your reflections. You need to answer questions such as: Who are you? How do you define your identity? What does this imply for the type of employment you need or want? How do these aspects of your identity link to critical identity theory? e.g. you could apply one or two of Brown’s identity dimensions to your own identity and discuss implications for your career.

Create an aesthetic and interesting presentation about you in the (future) world of work. You may use a variety of medium to present this portfolio including diagrams, illustrations etc but visual aspects are not essential - it is your choice. However, there should be strong written sections using theoretical underpinning from course readings. Draw on theoretical aspects from the course that feel relevant to you and use citations from course readings (ideas rather than quotes) to reflect critically upon your identity, your future, your aspirations, and the career you have, or might develop. For example, you might use theory from week 7 to showcase your resilience, or you might decide that fun/humour (week 2) are important to you – so discuss this and how this links to your identity and might be embedded into your career. It’s also fine to discuss what you DO NOT want – for example if you find emotional labour (week 4) draining then use this theory to argue how this links to your identity and how you might construct your (future) career.

You must use APA referencing protocols for in-text citations. You must include a reference list (not a bibliography)

Organizational experiences do not have to be work experiences- you can draw upon community, sporting, church, educational, and not-for-profit organizational experiences.
