Module Overview
This module is one of the compulsory modules on your programme that provide you with a deeper engagement with the academic and professional skills to support the preparation of your Final Project work. The module encourages you to engage directly with the range of physical and online library resources necessary to promote advanced level research skills. The module will provide opportunities to develop your academic literacy and proposal writing skills through planned workshops/lectures/seminars. Additionally, the teaching helps you develop the personal and professional organisational and self-management attributes that are associated with professional practice. You will be able to participate in arranged English language sessions, as part of the University’s mission to enhance academic student support.
This module is designed to develop students’ understanding of the research process and how research and evaluation underpin contemporary fashion management. It introduces students to the broad range of different researchmethodologies and techniques, covering problem definition, literature review, methodological justification, ethical considerations and analysis and report of findings. It highlights the importance of being able to make a justified choice of methodological practices and the importance of an ethical research perspective. This module aims to equip students with a thorough grounding in research skills at postgraduate level by accentuating on developing skills, knowledge and awareness essential to pursue an independent research project.
Students will learn through an interactive lecture programme which will introduce the topics, exploring academic theory and its practical application by reviewing Real-World examples. Following the lectures, the students will take part in a mix of different types of learning experience, designed to allow students to discover, use and apply research approach and methodology in a very ‘hands on’ manner, thus developing skills of independent learning. Students will be expected to undertake independent learning activities, set in the lecture and seminars, which can include directed learning tasks, group presentations, case study reviews, further reading and research and assessment activity.
Formative feedback will be available to students through the scheduled seminars so that individual and small groups of students can access the teaching staff to discuss modulematters of particular interest and receive detailed guidance. The formative feedback will enable students to develop the learning outcomes of the module as well as contribute to the improvement of the understanding and development of the summative assessment.
