Assignment Purpose: Assignment Title: Assessment Centre Experience (ACE) Reflective Report and Personal Employment Plan (50%) Description of the assignment, task, content and structure: Background and overview: All students are expected to attend the Assessment Centre Experience (ACE) in the week commencing 13th November 2023. It will likely be Wednesday 15th November between 9am-2pm. This unique opportunity is integral to your taught sessions, and your reflection on how you performed at the event forms part of this coursework. Full details will be provided in the module and on the dedicated ACE website https://go.herts.ac.uk/ACE (using the standard UH log in for students) to help you prepare. Following ACE, you will receive feedback on both the group exercise and interview which you should use to plan your development. Important note: for this assignment you are not assessed on your performance at ACE but on your reflection and learning from this and other resources. In addition, for this assessment, you will be required to: • Research the use of assessment centres in the graduate recruitment process • Practice online aptitude/psychometric tests • Use all of the above to prepare an Employment Plan Task: You are required to produce a Reflective Report and an Employment Plan. This should include: 1) reflection on what you gained from the assessment centre experience; practice aptitude/psychometric tests and other learning from the module and 2) how you will use this to prepare for the recruitment process for an internship, placement role or graduate job in the future. Content and Structure: Basic report structure is required for Parts A and B with headings and bullet points. Use concise business English throughout. Ensure that you include your psychometric test reports and ACE feedback for full marks (see marks scheme). Part C requires an Employment Plan in a table format with bullet points. This plan should be no more than 2 sides of A4 paper. A template will be provided and full details provided in the module. See below for specific content requirement: Part A – Knowledge of the importance of assessment centres and aptitude/psychometric tests in the recruitment process (Suggested word count 350) Please note: this section should be prepared and written prior to attending ACE • Log onto the Careers website here: https://herts.careercentre.me/resources/aptitudetests/and attempt two different types of aptitude/psychometric practice tests e.g. one numerical and one verbal. • Discuss a) how you performed in these two different aptitude tests and b) what you need to do now to improve your test score to ensure that you get to the assessment centre stage of the recruitment process. • What is an assessment centre and why are major employers now using them in the recruitment process? (Ideal opportunity to include research and references to support the discussion) • Which types of assessment are commonly found in an assessment centre? • What are your perceived strengths and weaknesses prior to attending an assessment centre? • How do you expect to benefit from attending ACE in November 2023? Note: you must include a copy of your results. You may include this within the text (not included in your word-count) or as appendices (with correct in-text signposting) after your Reference List. Part B - Reflect on the assessment centre experience (ACE) and decide how you would approach your next assessment centre experience. (Suggested word count 300) • Did the assessment centre experience match what you were expecting from an assessment centre experience – why/how? • What did you learn from the assessment centre experience and what would you do differently next time? Ensure to mention: 1. Group Exercise - How did you perform, what were your strengths and weaknesses and reflect on how you could improve on your performance for your next assessment centre experience? 2. Interview - How did you perform, what were your strengths and weaknesses and reflect on how you could improve on your performance for your next assessment centre experience? 3. Skills session – What was your ‘take-away’ learning from this session? How may this be useful for your future career? What should you do now to assist your career planning? Note: you must include a copy of your feedback for the first two ACE activities. You may include this within the text (not included in your word-count) or as appendices (with correct in-text signposting) after your Reference List. It is very important that you reflect on the feedback received and not copy it. Reflective writing will be revisited in this module and additional resources made available. Part C – Produce an Employment Plan for the next three years. (Table format to include suggested word count 350) • Reflecting on all you have learnt from the module sessions and events including ACE; Careers and Employment website; own research; and thoughts on your chosen future career (including the main skills required) you must produce an Employment Plan which provides details of what you need to do in order to achieve your goals. • Ensure your goals are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-bound). Provide details about how you will achieve these goals over the next few years, e.g. by training or through work experience. • Detail points such as: do you want you want to secure an internship or placement next year and why? What sector do you want to work in? Where do you want to be in your career in 3years? • Note: you should use a table format with bullet points and sub-headings for this task and it is expected that this is no more than two sides of A4 paper in landscape.
