You are strongly advised to start doing this assignment from Week-10 in your study. Follow the provided guidelines to help you successfully direct your efforts. Task Description Problem context The Southern Cross University has to upgrade its Cisco lab network (given in A1/A2) to meet with new security requirements and recent changes in network technology. According to the new security requirements, access to the lab network routers must be now managed through a centralised server located in the HQ. The access must also be allowed only from the management network. Finally, the network must e upgraded to allow the simulation of an enterprise network of a HQ and 4 branches. You can assume the following: • The HQ has 60 employees. • Branch A, B, C and D subsequently have 40, 30, 20, 10 employees. • Each branch has a local server. • Each employee needs a PC and an IP Phone As a network manager, you will complete the following tasks: Assignment tasks • Task 1: Securing the network. In this task, you will o Configure AAA framework for the network (given in A2) according to the new security policy. Only users with the following credentials (username / password) are allowed to access the network devices: ▪ s+your_student_id (e.g. s234567) / Comp2001 ▪ admin / cisco ▪ Use your student-id for the server key COMP2001 – Network Management Assignment-3, 2021 2 o Configure ACLs to allow only the management PC to access the network devices. o Document all configuration commands and take screen shorts to show the network is secured. • Task 2: Write a business case to propose a solution to upgrade the network according to the requirements. Perform the cost benefit analysis for the solution. Present the business case proposal to your partner for feedback. Assignment-3 marking guidelines The following are the major assessment criteria of this assignment Task 1: Securing network (20 marks) In this task, you will be assessed based on • AAA framework configuration (8 marks) o Configure the server (2 marks) o Configure AAA on network devices (6 marks) • ACL configuration (10 marks) • Documentation of configuration and access verification (2 marks) Task 2: Propose upgrade solution (20 marks) In this task, you will be assessed based on: • Your business case (10 marks), and • Your critical feedback to your partner business case (10 marks) Use the following criteria to access your and your partner business case: • The correctness, feasibility and future-proof of the proposed solutions. A good solution should be technically correct, feasible in terms of budget, considering the future network growth and using the contemporary network technology (2 marks). • The technical details of the solutions. Each solution should be provided with a sufficient level of technical details so that its working mechanism can be understood and the cost to implement the solution can be estimated. At the minimum, you will need to provide the high-level logical and physical design of the solutions with the list of major hardware and software to be obtained (2 marks). • Cost-benefit analysis for the solution. You can assume a 5-year investment term in this assignment (4 marks). Retain duplicate copy Before submitting the assignment, you are advised to retain electronic copies of original work. In the event of any uncertainty regarding the submission of assessment items, you may be requested to reproduce a final copy. School Extension Policy In general, I will NOT give extension unless where there are exceptional circumstances. Students wanting an extension must make a request at least 24 hours before the assessment item is due and the request must be received in writing by the unit assessor or designated academic. Extensions within 24 hours of submission or following the submission deadline will not be granted (unless supported by a doctor’s certificate or where there are exceptional circumstances – this will be at unit assessor’s discretion and will be considered on a case by case basis). Extensions will be for a maximum of 48 hours (longer extensions supported by a doctor’s certificate or alike to be considered on a case by case basis). A penalty of 5% of the total available grade will accrue for each 24-hour period that an assessment item is submitted late. Therefore, an assessment item worth 20 marks will have 1 marks deducted for every 24-hour period and at the end of 20 days will receive 0 marks. Students who fail to submit following the guidelines in this Unit Information Guide will be deemed to have not submitted the assessment item and the above penalty will be applied until the specified submission guidelines are followed. COMP2001 – Network Management Assignment-3, 2021 4 Marks and Feedback All assessment materials submitted during the semester will normally be marked and returned within two weeks of the required date of submission (provided that the assessment materials have been submitted by the due date).
