1 | P a g e FIT3138 Real Time Enterprise Systems Semester 2, 2021 Assignment Two: Exploring ERP Functionality > Due Date: Monday 13th September 2021 11pm Value: 10% of final Assessment Mode of submission: Online on Moodle Type of Assignment: Individual Assignment Assignment Aim and Objectives: This assignment is made up of two parts and aims to encourage students to explore and discuss the different functionalitites of the real-time enterprise systems. The aim of this assignment is to provide students with an opportunity to critically evaluate an enterprise system (SAP S/4 HANA) through hands-on practical exercises. In so doing, the following objectives are sought: To understand the basics of supply chain management and how the processes are tightly integrated with other ERP elements, such as sales, purchasing, and financials. To gain hands-on experience on a production planning initiative using SAP ERP and to appreciate how the enterprise systems could be used to enhance efficiency in supply chain management. Unit Learning Outcome: 1, 2, 3 and 4 Part 1: Production Planning and Supply Chain Management Part 2: Business Integration – using ERPsim 2 | P a g e Part 1: Production Planning and Supply Chain Management Due: Monday 13th September 2021 11pm In this part of the assignment, you are required to perform a manufacturing process cycle using the Global Bike Inc. (G.B.I.) data set, which has exclusively been created for SAP UA global curricula. In this case study, you will create consumption values for a finished product to plan and process a complete manufacturing cycle. In order to process a complete manufacturing process you will take on different roles within the GBI company, e.g. production supervisor, shop floor worker and plant manager. Overall, you will be working in the Materials Management (MM) and the Production Planning and Execution (PP) departments. All the files that you need for this Production Planning and Execution (PP) Case Study are in the “SAP_PP” folder on Moodle. As you conduct the hands-on exercises, you are required to record the document numbers and provide screenshots on the data sheet provided. After completing the practical exercises, reflect on the different functionalities afforded by the SAP_PP module and discuss how the enterprise systems could be used to enhance efficiency in supply chain management. Your reflective essay should be about 300 words. Delivery structure and assessment criteria: 1. Download the “PP_Using GBI_Data_Sheet.doc” and rename it as AAAA-9999999 Part 1.docx, where ‘AAAA’ is your last name and ‘9999999’ is your Student ID. 2. Submit your file AAAA-9999999 Part 1.docx (or .pdf), which should include a record of all the document numbers being generated and your reflective essay. 3. The marking criteria appended on the last page of this document will give you an indication of how your work will be assessed. 3 | P a g e Part 2: Business Integration – using ERPsim Due: Monday 13th September 2021 11pm (Reflective essay) In this part of the assignment, you are required to work in teams of five (5) to compete in a simulation game and then write an individual reflective essay. Part 2.1: The Game (Played during week 5, 6 and 7 tutorials) In this simulation game, each team must operate the full business cycle (plan, procure, and sell) of a distribution company. Specifically, you will operate a wholesale distribution company that sells bottled water in Germany. During the simulation, you will take control of your company and make all key decisions. For the most part, clerical functions that are required to operate the company, but which are not decisions, such as invoicing receipt of payment from customers or sending payments to vendors, are automated by the simulator. This will allow participants to focus on the more strategic aspects of operating this wholesaler. The only interface used by the participants in the simulation is SAP, a real-life ERP system. Just like you would be working for a real company, participants will use the ERP system to generate reports, analyse the necessary information to make and implement your decisions, by entering or adjusting information in ERP system itself. More information about the game will be provided on Moodle. Part 2.2: Reflection (Individual) Although the game offers a great introduction to navigation in SAP, the overall objective here is not to transform participants into SAP system experts, but to simply allow you to use the system in context in order to understand how it can be used to run an enterprise. Through this experience, participants will develop a hands-on understanding of the concepts underlying enterprise systems, and experience the benefits of enterprise integration firsthand. Your reflective essay should be about 300 words and should address the following: Your experience in playing the game. Does gamifying the unit supports your learning? Based on your experience with the game, discuss how real-time enterprise systems can help an organisation gain competitive advantage in the current market environment that requires “Online connectivity, real-time response and in-context performance”. Delivery structure and assessment criteria: 1. Game component: There will be up to 25 teams competing. The team that earns the highest profit will be declared the winner and get a gift. Everyone who actively participates will be awarded full marks for this component. 2. Reflection: Submit your reflective essay in the form: AAAA-9999999 Part 2.docx (or .pdf), where ‘AAAA’ is your last name and ‘9999999’ is your Student ID. 3. The marking criteria appended on the last page of this document will give you an indication of how your work will be assessed. 4 | P a g e Submission instructions: 1. Your submission should include the following files: AAAA-9999999 Part 1.docx (or .pdf) AAAA-9999999 Part 2.docx (or .pdf) 2. Upload both files on the FIT3138 Moodle site under the “FIT3138 Assignment 2” submission link by Monday 13 September 2021 11pm.
