BFC3341 SEMESTER TEST (FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS) The test is scheduled to be held in Week 6 on Thursday, September 2, from 2 to 3 pm (Australian Eastern Standard Time). The test will be delivered online and will be accessible via your BFC3341 Moodle site. You will need to use an electronic device of this purpose. You will be given further details about how to access the test in Moodle at a date closer to the test's date. This semester test contributes towards 30% of your final grade. The test can only be undertaken during the designated time above. Failure to undertake this scheduled semester test at this scheduled time will result in you receiving a grade of 0 for this assessment component. 1. How do I access the BFC3341 Semester Test (ST)? You may access the Moodle folder: Mid Semester Test – September 2021 in the Folder on the BFC3341 Moodle website. 2. What do I do if I am overseas and the time zone I am in means I would prefer to be sleeping than sitting a semester test? If the centrally organised semester test is scheduled between 10 pm and 6am in the time zone in which you reside then you need to contact the Chief Examiner to make alternative arrangements. For students based in Australia, New Zealand, China, South East Asia and most states in the US time zone should not be an issue. 3. What should I have ready before I log in for the test? Before you log in, make sure your device is able to access the internet, you have blank paper, you can use Excel or calculator, whichever you may prefer. 4. Is the BFC3341 Semester Test open book? Yes, the BFC3341 is an open book (also open internet search) test. 5. How long is the BFC3341 Semester Test (MST)? TEST DURATION: 60 minutes (inclusive of reading time). Please make sure you manage the time appropriately. Don't spend too much time on a single question. 6. What is the structure, content, and mark distribution of the BFC3341 MST? • The test has about 10 short essay questions. In total, there are 30 marks, which will be 30% of the unit mark. You must answer all questions. • The MST coverage is based on the prescribed textbook Chapter one to Chapter three inclusive. The contents include lecture notes, lecture delivery, supplementary notes, and tutorial questions. • Some essay questions include calculation components. Students are encouraged to include interim steps besides writing out the final answer. 7. Is a formula sheet available for the BFC3341 MST? No. Since it is open book test, formula sheet is not necessarily anymore. 8. Do I need to know any additional formula not provided on the formula sheet? The more you know, the better you will perform. However, all questions in Part A and Part B can be attempted with the formulae provided on the formula sheet. 9. Will I be provided with previous MST material? What is the recommendation to prepare for MST? Yes, a previous MST is provided in Moodle under the folder “Information about mid-semester test”. Students, please be aware that, following the university policy, the current MST should not use questions from previous MSTs. The MST questions are based on the prescribed textbook, lecture notes, tutorial questions, and prescribed readings. Understanding lecture contents, knowing how to solve examples and tutorial questions, applying the learned knowledge to solve real-world questions are recommended for MST. 10. What calculator should I use for the BFC3341 MST? You are permitted use a HP 10bII+ calculator and/or a Casio fx82 calculator, as these are the ones you would have used throughout your classes. 11. Is there a hurdle requirement for BFC3341 MST? No to CE’s knowledge as of August 23. 12. What if I am sick on the day of the MST? Students enrolled at an Australian campus (including those who will be sitting the test from an overseas location) must use the online system to apply for special consideration (refer to the following link for details of how to apply (CE has tested the link. It is working as of August 23, 2021)). Please note that special consideration may be granted but is not guaranteed. Take careful note of the specific grounds upon which special consideration may be granted. 13. What if I have a clash between the BFC3341 MST and another unit? If your timetabled test (please refer to Exam timetable tile via my.monash portal) clashes with a lecture or seminar in another unit then you will be required to view the recording for that lecture or seminar via learning capture. If you have a clash with a different class activity, please contact the unit coordinator of the affected class to make an alternative arrangement. Neither of the above circumstances will constitute reasonable grounds for special consideration. Your MST takes precedence over other activities during this designated MST period. 14. What if I have work commitments that clash with BFC3341 MST? Outside work commitments are not sufficient grounds for special consideration. If you do have outside work commitments, you will be required to make arrangements as early as possible so you can attend your timetabled semester test, as you would have been given early notice of this scheduled ST time. Monash policy and procedures state under Section B of Assessment in Coursework Units: Adjustments to Assessment Procedures the following: https://www.monash.edu/__data/assets/pdf_file/0004/801616/Assessment-in-Coursework- Units-Adjustments-to-Assessment-Procedures.pdf There are many different circumstances, which may give rise to a special consideration application. Such as: • short-term serious medical condition. This includes hospital admission, serious injury, severe asthma and severe anxiety or depression. • loss or bereavement (for example, death of a close family member). • family relationship breakdown. • hardship or trauma. This may include: victims of crime; sudden loss of income or employment; or severe disruption to domestic arrangements. • obligations to military, jury or emergency services (such as the Country Fire Authority). • for students registered with the Elite Student Performer Scheme for student athletes, artists, performers participating in a key event and for students competing in key academic events and programs representing the University. • for student carers, where acute illness or other exceptional cause affects the person for whom they care and impacts on the student's ability to prepare for or perform the assessment. I bring to you attention that special consideration will not be granted for: • Managing workload from other units of study; • Managing work commitments; • Managing activities arising from voluntary representation as a member of a club or society; • Misreading the examination timetable; or • Information and communications technology-related problems, except where they could not have been prevented, avoided or the effects minimised by reasonable diligence by students. 15. When do I get my grade? The MST is manually graded. You will receive your grade (out of 30) after the tutor team has completed the marking. 16. What feedback will I receive? IMPORTANT: The semester test will be reviewed in tutorial Zoom Meetings. The unit will announce the week of review. It is absolutely imperative that you attend this session during that week. Tutors will be working through the MST Moodle quiz solutions.
