The questions in this assignment are based on the material covered up to and including slide 404
which is covered in the beginning of Lecture 21.
Submission Requirements
For this assignment, only electronic submissions will be acceptable. You will receive an email with
a link to Crowdmark that you can use to submit your assignment. Marks will be deducted if the
submission is hard to read.
Assignments that are submitted up to 24 hours late will be accepted and graded with a 10% penalty.
Assignments submitted beyond that point will not be accepted or graded.
For Crowdmark, you can submit as many times as you want (before the deadline) and it will only
keep the last submission. After the deadline, Crowdmark will only accept one submission.

BSO and Assignments 2 and 3
The details mentioned in Assignment 2 and 3 about the Bicycle Sellers of Ontario (BSO) also
applies to Assignment 4. You may want to review those details before completing Assignment 4.
BSO ended up creating a mobile digital platform for their customers to view BSO’s inventory. They
used RFID tags and a relational database to track their inventory of bicycles and bought a CRM to
keep track of their customers. They used this CRM to implement their bicycle maintenance program
and to offer a 10% discount on their first purchase if customers move to a new city and start using
the BSO store in that city.
Q1 Data and Information
Slides 280 to 289 discuss data, information and business intelligence. What is some (a) additional
data that BSO could obtain besides what is mentioned in Assignment 2, (b) information they could
derive to help them identify which stores are doing poorly and what might be the reasons of the
poor performance. [6 marks]
Q2 Competitive Advantage
As mentioned in Assignment 3, BSO is considering getting into the used bike business. Using
Porter’s Competitive Forces Model (slides 356-360), identify what you think is the biggest threat to

the profitability of this idea and how BSO can use an IS to help reduce the risk caused by this threat.
Your answer need not be more that four or five sentences. [5 marks]
Q3 Ethical Principles
Both Chris and Pat have worked in the repair department at BSO's Waterloo store for seven years.
Chris was recently promoted to the position of supervisor of the repair department and Pat has
noticed a change in Chris’s work habits. Lately he has been rushing through the repair jobs and
going for extra long lunch breaks, sometimes two hours instead of one.
Pat is worried that since Chris rushes through his repair jobs, it could be dangerous if, for example,
a brake is not adjusted properly and as a result the customer gets in an accident.
Other than that, they get along well and once when Pat had to leave work suddenly during the busy
season, Chris stayed late and did the repairs that Pat was supposed to do.
Pat has mentioned the change in work habits to Chris and he has said “Don’t worry about it. The
work is getting done.”
Pat is now trying to decide if she should report the situation to Chris’s boss, the store manager.
In a few sentences, analyze Pat’s situation from the perspective of the Golden Rule (slide 375) and
suggest what Pat should do. [3 marks]
Q4 Moral Dimension of the Information Age
In slides 369-370 and 377-404 present five different areas of concern due to computers and the
internet. Pick one that you think would be particularly relevant for BSO to consider and explain in a
few sentences how BSO could handle that concern. [3 marks]
