Problem 1: MATLAB exercise (60%). Consider a cell with no buffering. Consider that one session is
assigned one resource. New and handoff requests are given the same priority (no admission control imple-
mented). Assume that the arrival of requests follows a Poisson process with arrival rate λ, and the service
time follows an exponential distribution with a resource service rate µ.
a) Plot the blocking probability as a function of the number of resources allocated to the cell (consider 1
to 15 resources). Plot 4 dot-lines in the same figure for the following values of λ and µ. (40%)
• Line 1: λ1 = 10 request/minute and µ1 = 4 request/minute.
• Line 2: λ2 = 2λ1 request/minute and µ2 = µ1 request/minute.
• Line 3: λ3 = λ1 request/minute and µ3 = 2µ1 request/minute.
• Line 4: λ4 = 2λ1 request/minute and µ4 = 2µ1 request/minute.
Include your MATLAB scripts with the submission.
b) Comment the results obtained. (20%)
Problem 2 (40%). Go back to Homework Assignment 0 and explain briefly the technical meaning of the
concepts/technologies related to wireless communications that now you know but you marked in red or
yellow in Homework Assignment 0 or you thought you knew but now you understand better.
