Week 10 Lab: One Sample t-test
Open up R, Rstudio and R Commander and load the HTS.household.10regions dataset.

One Sample t-test
1. In RCommander click on Statistics then Means then Single – Sample t – Test.
2. Select one variable in the variable box.
3. The default option for the null hypothesis is mu=0 (the true mean).
4. The default option for Alternative hypothesis is population mean not equal to
mu=0 (one-tailed test) but can be changed population mean less than mu=0 (left-
tail test) and population mean greater than mu=0 (right tail test).
5. The confidence level the default is .95 this also what is used to construct a
confidence interval.
6. Go to the Console in RStudio which is in the bottom left. You will see the code of
the commands you did in RCommander and below the results of the one sample
t-test.

Remember: when the p-value is less than or equal to the significance level you reject the
null hypothesis, and the results are statistically significant. If the p-value is greater than
the significance level, you fail to reject the null hypothesis and the results are not
statistically significant.
