2 Application Description:
ScholarMate.com is a research social network service platform. It connects people to collaborate in
research projects, and share and discover knowledge (i.e., publications).
A simplified relational database schema for ScholarMate.com is shown below:
Group(GID, Name, …MID)
Join(GID, MID, Jdate)
Member(MID, Name, …)
Study(MID, OID, FromDate, Degree)
Work(MID, OID, Fromdate, Title)
Join-P(MID, Pno, DateJoint, ..)

Project(Pno, Title, ..Amount, MID, OID)
Produce(Pno, PubID, Cited)
Publication(PubID, Title, …)
PublicationKeyword(PubID, Keyword)

Please write SQL statements to answer the following questions (Please make assumptions or
modifications as necessary):
1 Recommend friends (i.e., contacts) based on (40 marks)
1) research collaborations;
2) classmates or colleagues;
3) friends’ friend;
4) researchers with same research interests.


2 Projects are used to facilitate research collaboration, show (30 marks)
1) project members;
2) list of publications of the project;
3) statistical report of activities (e.g., no of publications contributed) for each project member.


3 Papers are recommended to you based on the similarity of the research areas and collaborators’ work,
show (30 marks):
1) Keywords of your saved papers;
2) Publications with similar areas and keywords of your saved papers;
3) Publications of your co-authors.
