STA 463 Regression Analysis
Course Project 2

Purpose of Project
The goal of this project is to perform a thorough multiple linear regression analysis on a data set you
collected or choose from a reliable resource. Your final project products include a written project
report and an audio-recorded slides presentation. As a result of the survey outcomes I did in IC 17,
this project can be completed on your own or in a group with up to three members.
In this project, you are expected
1) to synthesize the statistical knowledge you have gained in class and lab, and apply it to a
dataset of interest.
2) to identify a research question that can be answered by your dataset,
3) to write clearly about the technical material you have learned.
Any data that is suitable for fitting a multiple linear regression (with multiple predictors) and
answer your research question would work!
1. Written Report
I introduced the structure of a written report back in the description of Project 1. You are expected to
follow the same structure when you prepare the project report for Project 2. I allowed people to submit
html files that are compiled from RMarkdown for Project 1 report, but for Project 2, I would require all
the submitted report to be in word or pdf format.
Your written report should be concise. Your report should be no more than 5 pages long (not including
references, code, outputs). If you want to include code, do not include it in the body of the report but in
an appendix.

2. Slides Presentation
I would like to invite all of you to present your project 2 with a slides presentation. You are expected to
record a video that introduces your project. You can use any screen cast software to record your
presentation as you go through your presentation slides (ppt or pdf slides) and create a video that can
be uploaded to YouTube or other websites for me (and other students) in this class to view and
evaluate.
I have been using a free software, screencast-o-matic for creating class lecture videos. You can probably
explore this as a viable option for making such a video. https://screencast-o-matic.com/screen-recorder
Your presentation should be at least 4 minutes, and at most 10 minutes. You shall submit both the
presentation slides file and the video for this part. Please upload your video to a website and then
submit the link to the video webpage in the first page of your presentation slides.
3. Group work statement
For those who choose to work in a group project, you will need to elect a group leader. The group leader
is responsible for submitting your group project written report and presentation slides/video on
CANVAS on behalf of your group and the other group members would not submit anything. But all group
members should contribute to the preparation of report, presentation and video.
In addition to that, the group also needs to keep a group activity log, as a proof of group member
contributions, based on which the group summarizes the contribution of each group member with a 1-
page group work statement on the last page of the written report. In the group work statement, I expect
to know what group activities were conducted, and which group member contributed to which part in
the process.
