KIT109 Games Fundamentals Assignment 2 — Game Concept DevLog Weighting: 5% Due Time/Date: 11:55pm Friday 28th of August (Week 7) Aims of the Assignment The purpose of this assignment is to give you experience creating design concept documents for a simple video game. It addresses the following criteria from the unit handout: • ILO1: communicate the design and development processes of games. Assignment Requirements The assignment is to develop a game concept and present that concept via a Game Concept DevLog on itch.io. The concept you come up with will be implemented for the rest of semester and will form the basis of your work for Assignments 3, 4 and 5. This is an individual assignment. Report Requirements The concept devlog should address the following areas (you should create headings for each of these): • Overview, including: o The working title. o The concept statement. Max 100 words1. o Genre or category of game. o Concept creation process/area (e.g. subtractive design, anti-game, mashup, etc.) and influences. Max 400 words. o Audience and competitive analysis. Max 400 words. • Game treatment and concept art. o Max 1000 words. See lecture slides for information about what each of these sections should contain, and how to approach this assignment. Referencing It is expected that you will need to reference pre-existing games or any images from external sources (e.g. for influences or concept art). Any suitable referencing style is acceptable for this assignment, but it must at least be consistently and correctly applied throughout your document. Additionally, all images in your report should be captioned and referred to somewhere in the text – i.e. they should always support what the text is saying and be relevant. Assignment Submission—itch.io Your concept document needs to be in the form of a DevLog on itch.io published before 11:55pm Friday 28th of August (Week 7). You will need to create a new “Game” project on your itch.io account with the title of your game and add a DevLog titled “Game Concept”.
