BU481 Final Exam Online Instructions (All Sections) – Spring 2020 Exam Format Exam Time: Sunday August 16, 3:30pm to 6:00pm and can be found in quizzes section of course MyLS website. The exam case will be distributed to students 24 hours prior to the exam. There will be 5-6 essay style questions worth 100 marks. Students will type their responses into the space provided following each question. Students will be able to move back and forth between questions. Answers should be concise, well organized, and should utilize relevant information from the case and student’s analysis. Do not present all of your analysis, rather focus on the key information, insights, and inferences from your analysis relevant to the question. Confine your analysis to the data in the case and the background material provided. External data will not be accepted. Technology and taking the Exam. Please visit the course MyLS page as soon as possible and review the news announcement “Important Assessment Information - This Course Uses Respondus LockDown Browser & Monitor.” Laurier uses Respondus’ Lockdown Browser and Monitor software to facilitate online, virtual proctoring of assessments conducted through MyLearningSpace. The Lockdown Browser software is available for download from your MyLS homepage, from the quiz access page or directly from Respondus. Do not use a mobile device and/or app. You must use a desktop or laptop computer preferably with a reliable wired (not wireless) internet connection. Your computer must have a webcam. If you leave the exam, you cannot return. Be sure to check that your responses are being saved as you go. It is recommended that you use Chrome or Firefox as your browser. Do not use Safari or Explorer. Clear your cache, turn off pop-up blockers, and do not have other devices running that would be sharing your internet bandwidth. COMPLETE THE PRACTICE QUIZ ON MYLS! If you have not already done so. This will ensure that your technology is working correctly and will allow you to get help before you write the final exam. As well, Important – At the start of the exam, you will be required to hold your student card up to the webcam (along with your Exam Rough Work Sheets – see below) so that your picture and student number are clearly visible. Students not properly verifying their identity during the ID check will not have their exam graded and will receive a mark of zero on the exam. Help! You will be required during the exam to complete a thorough Environment Check/Scan to show that you are writing in a room by yourself and free from unauthorized aids. It is the student’s responsibility to clearly show that their exam writing room, workspace and desktop area are clear of any unauthorized aids (including papers, books, phones, etc). Any aid that is not authorized is automatically considered unauthorized. Students not completing a thorough environment scan as required will not have their exam graded and will receive a mark of zero on the exam. Carefully read the Environment Check/Scan instructions when you start the exam. To write the exam, you may have one computer, screen/monitor, keyboard, mouse, and webcam. You may not utilize dual monitors, and or other electronic devices during the exam with the exception of using your phone to only email your instructor. Students may not listen to audio or wear audio devices (earbuds/headphones) during the exam. You may not communicate in any way with anyone, receive or offer assistance writing the exam, or carry out any activity that would provide you with an advantage. Doing so would constitute an academic offence. Attempts to access resources during the exam will cause Respondus to eject you from the exam and prohibit you from completing the exam. You are permitted a non-programmable calculator and a single hard-copy printout of your exam case during the exam. In preparing the exam case, you may only write on the printed case pages in the available space (no blank pages/sides may be used At the start of the exam you will be required to hold up the following to the webcam o You student card o Your calculator o Each page of your case If you need to reach your instructor during the quiz you are allowed to use your phone to email you instructor. Please ensure that your use of the phone during this time is visible on the camera. This will be of help when your instructor reviews the Respondus videos. Other important information Practice typing out quantitative information on your computer/keyboard so you will be comfortable providing this type of response to any exam questions you feel would be appropriate.
