ECMT6006 Mid-semester Test Instructions
2 April 2020
1. Format:
• Canvas delivery, open book, un-proctored
• Canvas submission with file uploads
2. Time: 6pm-7:10pm on Thursday 9 April 2020, Sydney time
• The exam includes 10-min reading time and 1-hr writing time.
• The exam will be available on Canvas > Assignments > Mid-semester test at 6pm, the exam
“Available from” time.
• You should finish your exam before 7:10pm, the exam “Due” time 7:10pm.
• After the due time, you have up to 20 minutes to submit your answers on Canvas by
uploading the file (same as Assignment 1). You will not be able to submit your file after
7:30pm, the exam “Until” time.
3. Canvas submission
You can write your answers either on paper or on your tablet depending your preference.
• If you write on paper, then you will scan your answer (see below options of scanning
programs) and generate a PDF file to upload onto Canvas.
• If you write on your tablet, then you will generate a PDF file to upload onto Canvas.
You can do this during 7:10pm and 7:30pm. If you finish the exam early, you can certainly
upload the file before 7:10pm.
4. Scanning programs
I strongly recommend you have a scanning program installed on your phone and test the
scanning and file uploading before the exam. Below are two options of free scanning programs
which you can simply download to your phone.
• Adobe Scanner
• CamScanner
If you are in mainland China, you may not be able to use Adobe Scanner. But
CamScanner should work.
5. Special consideration and replace exam
Special considerations (https://www.sydney.edu.au/students/special-consideration.html) will
apply as usual (for illness or misadventure). If you experience misadventure in terms of technical
issues during the exam, make sure you collect enough evidence.
The replacement exam will be in Week 13 if you are approved for a special consideration and
will be in the same format as you’re having for the take-home online mid-semester test.
6. General instructions from the School of Economics
Below are the general instructions regarding what to do if you experience problems during your
take-home Canvas exam. This is also posted on the School Canvas site.
--------
Dear Students,
This semester, in order to keep students safe and minimise disruption to studies, there will be
changes to the way in which mid-semester tests are delivered. If you have one scheduled, it will
either be delivered online through a proctored (this means supervised) service or changed to a
take-home online exam. You will be advised of the changes to your scheduled test via your Canvas
sites. Following the move to online examinations, we aim to support you and provide guidance with
this new format.
